Short AND Tall Referee
The referee in Short AND Tall is concerned only with administering regular basketball rules plus two special provisions:
1. Number of Players: A squad with fewer than 10 players is to grant two free throws for each subtraction from the 10-player format. In the event that each opponent is under 10 players, both squads attempt all shots (no trading).
Example: Preferably at halftime, a squad of eight players shoots two throws granted by their nine-player opposition. The nine attempt the four throws granted by the eight..
Observing: The referee notes the squad sizes when the players line up pre-game. The coaches affirm their judging for tallness and that it is within the squad allowance.
Game Lists: It is unnecessary for the referee to review Game Lists, which the coaches may exchange.
Validity: The referee accepts without question the tallness affirmations.
2. Second Half Lineups: The second-half opening lineups automatically include all squad members who did not start the game. Game starters may then re-enter one substitution at a time.
